Our clay roof tiles obtain their colour by using various methods in which the roof tile is treated or baked. All Koramic ceramic roof tiles carry the 30-year guarantee.
In terms of surface treatments, we can divide our roof tiles into 2 groups:
The difference between natural red and blue smothered clay tiles is in the way they are baked.
Natural red ceramic roof tiles are baked with an oxidation process, which gives them their classic character and the characteristic orange-red colour of baked clay.
Blue braised roof tiles are first oxidatively fired. After a cooling process, these roof tiles go into the kiln a second time, this time extracting the oxygen from the tiles (also called braising). This gives the roof tile a blue-gray color in the mass.
Weathered roof tiles have the appearance of old reclaimed roof tiles with the quality and guarantees of brand new Koramic roof tiles.
Perfect for restoring old buildings or creating a cottage style. The authentic weathered appearance is obtained by a special treatment of the unfired tiles.
The baking process for sanded ceramic roof tiles is as follows:
With an engobe finish, a clay-containing suspension is sprayed onto the roof tiles before firing. During firing, the layer sinters in the tile. Depending on the desired colour, oxides are added to the layer. These oxides discolour due to the heat and give the specific colour to the clay roof tile.
Slate engobe proceeds in more or less the same way. The difference is that the composition of the suspension is somewhere between engobe and glaze. During firing, the suspension melts onto the surface of the roof tile and in this way creates a glossy or semi-glossy effect.
Glazed ceramic roof tiles can be either glossy or matt and are made as follows:
The glass layer after glazing roof tiles offers exceptional protection against the formation of algae.
